Latics Aim To Be The Masters Of The Mersey

This Saturday (18/06/11) sees Wigan Athletic return to the Masters Football arena, a strong looking line-up of Latics Legends will participate in the Selco Mersey Masters where they will be competing against PAST 'masters' from Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers, Everton, Liverpool and defending champions Tranmere Rovers.

The Latics squad of eight players has been confirmed as:

Simon Farnworth (GK)

John Doolan

Peter Atherton

Joe Parkinson

Andy Lyons

John Robertson

Dave McKearney

Arjan De Zeeuw

There will also be plenty of familiar faces turning out for the 'other` sides, with ex Latics men Peter Beagrie, Gareth Farrelly, Ged Brannan, Eric Nixon, Stuart Barlow, Mike Flynn, Tony Dinning, Scott Green and David Lee all confirmed in the playing squads for one or other of the tournaments opponents.

Surprisingly current Bolton manager Owen Coyle is named in the Wanderers squad, I wonder If someone will give the smug git a kicking?

The Selco Masters is a popular event and is set to be shown live on Sky Sports 3 at 4pm BST, but if you want to go along to the Echo Arena and support the Latics Legends in person you can purchase tickets, priced £7 - £20, from www.echoarena.com, also, if you are feeling lucky, there is a competition being run on the Latics Official website, for ten pairs of tickets, why not enter, its free.

I`ll be watching from the comfort of my living room and cheering the boys on to victory in what is always a fun tournament
