Roberto Martinez Speaks On Opening Games

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has spoken about the 'fascinating' opening fixtures that face the Latics when the new season gets underway.

The first three games of the 2011/12 season are against the three newly promoted sides, Norwich City at the DW, next a trip to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City before QPR visit Wigan to round off what should be a very interesting August.

Speaking to the Latics official website Martinez said:"Fixtures Day is always one of the highlights of the calendar, and we have been handed a really exciting opening. Norwich, Swansea and QPR have progressed so well over the last two seasons and it is going to be a fascinating start.

"It's a cliché but there really are no easy games in the Premier League, we know that after six seasons and especially the experience of last season with two teams being relegated on the highest total for 8 seasons.

"Every team is competitive at this level, and we need to be ready for another huge challenge over the coming months. I made it clear last week how committed we are in moving this fantastic club of ours onto the next level and this season provides a great opportunity for us to do that. We will be ready."

This has got to be some kind of wind up! It cannot be for real! I mean, ALL THREE PROMOED TEAMS ONE AFTER ANOTHER?? Last year we also drew the plum with Blackpool - and we all know what happened then! Followed by bloomin' Chelsea. This time we have all the three newcomers followed by Man City and Everton and then Villa and Tottenham.... if that isn't tough then I don't know what is! I'm sure this was deliberately enginereed by the computer (not so random all told - as if!) as punishment for us having the gall to defy the odds and stay up again...! I am convinced of it..... Wigan need to be sharp if they're to overcome this enormous test for the new season....

Latics v Latics - Big Game Preview

The new pitch has been laid, marked and hovered in time for the visit of Oldham Athletic in what could be a very significant League 1 clash.

If results go our way, come 5pm tonight we could find ourselves in second spot in the league table, a position that would set us up nicely for next week's clash with promotion rivals Walsall, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The last time I was thinking like this with full on confidence was prior to the Blackpool game in December, what a
