'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wigan Athletic - Its The Mersey Masters Day

Wigan Athletic past players are taking part in this afternoons Selco Mersey Masters Tournament broadcast live on Sky Sports 3 from 4 pm today.

The Latics squad is:

Simon Farnworth, John Doolan, Peter Atherton, Joe Parkinson, Andy Lyons, John Robertson, Dave McKearney and Arjan De Zeeuw

This time out they will be hoping to go one better than last year when they were the beaten finalist, Tranmere Rovers running out comfortable winners. The competition though is always fun and entertaining and has a real local feel about it, the Latics will be up against Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers, Everton, Liverpool and Tranmere Rovers.

Earlier in the week I spoke to Latics Legend and Masters Squad member Peter Atherton who said: "It would certainly be nice to go on and win. We have lost twice in the area final, Tranmere last year and to Man U a few years back. But it's always tough with Tranmere the team to beat!"

Good luck lads, I`ll be rooting for you, Sky Sports 3 at 4pm
