James McCarthy Set For New Latics Deal

Wigan Athletic are set to give young midfield man James McCarthy a new contract to tie him to the Latics for a few years yet.

The Republic of Ireland international has been the subject of speculation regarding a move away from the DW Stadium, Chelsea and Liverpool showing well publicised interest, whilst Arsenal have been keeping more discreet tabs on the 20 year olds progress.

McCarthy was in sensational form last season, he plays with a maturity that far outweighs his years and the reason that the Latics flirted with relegation could be put down to the fourteen games that McCarthy missed through injury.

The Daily Mirror are reporting that talks have already started with McCarthy's agent over a substantial pay rise and extension to his current deal and the Glasgow born youngster is ready to put pen to paper.

The paper also reports that 'Martinez's decision to snub Aston Villa and commit to Wigan has also played a part in McCarthy's thinking'

This will be a great boost to the club, James McCarthy is destined to be one of the Premier Leagues top midfield players and for the time being at least he will be progressing towards this as a Wigan Athletic player
