Honduras Through To Gold Cup Semi-Final

Wigan Athletic midfield man Hendry Thomas played a starring role as Honduras qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finals with a penalty shoot out win over Costa Rica.

Los Catrachos took a 49th minute lead when Jerry Bengston tapped home after Javi Portillo`s shot had been parried, unfortunately Costa Rica equalised when Marshall headed home from a corner on 56 minutes

Then with just 15 minutes remaining Costa Rica were awarded a penalty, Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares guessed the right way and pushed the ball out to safety, the score-line remained the same at 1-1 and the game ran in to extra-time, with no more clear cut chances being created it was down to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Costa Rica missed their first and third spot kicks whilst Honduras buried the first four of theirs. Ex-Latics player Wilson Palacios smashed home Honduras` third as they ran out 4-2 winners and through to the semi`s.

Mexico are next up for Honduras following their 2-1 win over El Salvador, the winners of the Panama v USA game will provide the other finalist. The semi finals of the competition are set to be played on Wednesday 22nd June, the final is scheduled for Saturday the 25th June

Good luck to Honduras and Hendry Thomas, here`s hoping that they can get past6 Mexico and make the final.
