Villa Challenge Latics For Al-Habsi

The Daily Mail are reporting that former Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish, now in charge of Aston Villa, has apparently declared an interest in signing Wigan Athletic target Ali Al-Habsi from Premier League rivals Bolton Wanderers.

Al-Habsi was of course named Latics player of the year at the end of last season following his loan spell from the Wanderers, a deal was expected to be sorted quickly to bring the Oman international to the DW Stadium on a permanent basis, but due to the 29 year old goalkeeper being on an extended stay in the Gulf visiting family and friends the dotted lines haven`t been signed yet and McLeish has spied an opportunity according to the Mail.

Former Villa keeper Jimmy Rimmer works as part of Al-Habsi's management team and he advised him to consider a move to Villa Park at the end of the season, now it looks like McLeish is hoping to hijack the move to the Latics and convince Al-Habsi to join his Villa revolution.

Ali though has his heart set on the Latics and it would be a major surprise if he did a u-turn and headed down the M6 to join Aston Villa.

Whelan, get your wallet out before we miss out...

I'm not a fan of Paper talk. They strive off rumor, but Whelan needs to be committed and stop the haggling and that will end the matter.

Calm down gents. Ali is signing and that's that!

I think Whelan will stick to his guns on this one.

Please you lot just hurry up and take him so we dont at Villa. He has played roughly 30 first team games since 05/06? Ridiculous.
Timmsy
