'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bruce Underhanded N'Zogbia Move

Its not that long ago that former Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce was in the papers crying about other managers tactics trying to unsettle the talented squad he's assembled at that great football club Sunderland.

Kenwynne Jones, Darren Bent, Jordan Henderson and whoever else he was on about blahde, blahde blah, well we all know that Mr Bruce isn't overt to using the media to get at players, Lee Cattermole, Titus Bramble and his failed attempt with Maynor Figueroa all spring to mind, now the hypocritical Newcastle United supporter is at it again.

Clearly chasing Latics star Charles N'Zogbia Bruce is using his imitable style, speaking to the local rag up in the North East, Bruce, under the headline Charles N'Zogbia Keen On SAFC Move, says: "I've told him how great Sunderland are - he knows how good a club it is.

"Every time we speak, we speak about football and he knows how highly I think about the club. He knows everything about it."

Not content with stirring it up himself, Bruce has got former Latics player Titus Bramble involved: "I have spoken to Charles a few times this summer," Bramble said

"When I spoke to him last year he said it'd be a fantastic move for him. Whether it materialises for him or not I don't know - but you never know in football. I think the players would love him here, the fans would love him to be here - but it's out of our hands.

"We want as many fantastic players as we can here, he's a fantastic player and he'd be great for this club."

Technically is that not tapping up a player? I dont see Wigan giving permission for Bruce to talk to N'Zogbia.

Never plays with a straight bat does Bruce

I'm sorry but before you post an article about our club will you get the facts correct. We go about our business in the correct manner, like Wigan, both well ran clubs albeit Sunderland a little bigger due to higher crowds (mostly down to the Rugby situation in Wigan I guess). If Bramble is friends with Charles and is trying to pursuade him to come, good for him. That's no different to Wigan saying they wanted Shaun Wright Phillips, I don't recall them being given permission..... Anyway my point was that, the quotes above are all from Bramble. This was an interview he did whilst on the Germany pre season tour, with the Guardian newspaper. So when you say Bruce has said "I've told him how great Sunderland are - he knows how good a club it is" - that is a quote from Bramble. Not once has Bruce spoke about N'zogbia other than to compliment his ability and talent and more recently to say the deal has became to "rich" for safc. Again Bramble is close friends with Charles so if he wants to go in the press and compliment a fellow professional and state that Charles has said he would be keen to join, then there is nothing wrong with that. Only yesterday John Terry said that Luka Modric would be a great addition to Chelsea... you might like to read the article again and see that Bramble is merely complimenting Charles and saying he would be delighted IF he did end up joining Sunderland. In what way is this Steve Bruce trying underhand tactics ?
micky2121
You clearly have not read that article have you? Bruce is not quoted anywhere saying that. Still bitter are we?

Dont forget Bruce was our manager for a while and we know how he operates, Sunderland are a respected club (even though you are in the shadow of Darlington;0) ) Players talk all the while but for a manager to speak to the press about other clubs players is something that Bruce does all the time, as for SWP we had permission from City

http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/safc-news/2011/07/20/charles-n-zogbia-keen-on-safc-move-says-titus-bramble-61634-29085974/ Here is the link that backs up my claim that it is all quotes from Bramble and not STEVE BRUCE. Nice try at reclaiming some pride back though after we stole your manager, bramble, cattermole and hopefully n'zogbia :)

Worbo, this article states above that Bruce is quoted as saying "I've told him how great Sunderland are - he knows how good a club it is". That is not a quote from Steve Bruce, its Titus Bramble... which basically makes this whole page and article about Bruce trying underhand tactics on N'zogbia pointless. This article states he is specifically trying these tactics with N'zogbia... when he has not. It was Bramble who made the quotes to the press about his mate.
micky2121
Micky, the title of the thread is underhanded, again I'll reiterate Bruce was our manager and we know how he operates, no slight on Sunderland just a manager that likes to stir things using whatever means he can
worbo
It also states N'zogbia in the title. Read Paragraph 3 mate, it states STEVE BRUCE made quotes about N'zogbia, when them quotes are not from BRUCE they are from Titus Bramble. So how has Bruce underhanded the N'zogbia move ? He has only said one thing in the press and that was that the deal is off because it became too rich for safc (the 10m whelan wants). He might have tried tactics like that in the past but I dont recall him doing so in his time at SAFC. Im sure every other safc fan will back me up here, this article just smacks of bitterness.
micky2121
Dunno what ur all moaning about, hes on his way to Villa Park.
GibboVilla
micky you will see bruce move on from sunderland and leave you with a squad of highly paid but poor players.he will also leave you over your head in debt.bruce is only being a smart man saying charlie is too rich at 10 million when he has paid more for players not fit to lace charlies boots.cant see charlie going back up there after the way he was treated before.going from wigan to sunderland is only a side step not a step up.

N'Zogbia wont go to Sunderland anyway, i admit, they are a bigger club and probably have more talented players than we do. But if we're honest, Charlie is too good for both of our clubs. He is absolutely world class. As for Steve Bruce, i do fear for Sunderland fans abit, i remember when he went and signed De Ridder and Kapo on huge wages just for them to sit on the bench and drain away our money. I fear for you because it is looking like a similiar situation developing and the Stadium of Light. He will leave you one day to further his own career, which is all he cares about. He isnt that bright a man i can promise you that, i have met him on many occasions. I think your squad is far too big and alot of players will be unhappy with there game time and the team will become unsettled in my opinion, i think a rocky road could well lay ahead of you Sunderland fans. Good luck for the next season though, i hope my fears are wrong as you are a good premier league club. And as for Titus.........Well ***** YOU!

Isn't Bruce trying to have "peace talks" with Ferguson because he pulled a sly one on Gibson's contract? The way Bruce is spending money and purchasing right now he is setting Sunderland to go crashing down. If Sunderland don't get a respectable finish next season, you can watch Sunderland crumble like a house of cards. But more to the subject, Steve Bruce is a master when it comes to using the media to stir up players to pry them away from their club. Fortunately it worked for Catter-red-card-every-game-i-play-mole and Bramble. This in turn made some space for Alcaraz, Diame and McCarthy. Goodluck Sunderland let's hope all those cards in your hand add up to something worth putting down next season.
