Derry Winger Still Linked With Latics Move

Wigan Athletic may be looking to bring in Derry City player James McClean, with Derry chairman Philip O'Doherty admitting that he has spoken to Latics chief scout Kevin Reeves about the highly rated winger.

O'Doherty said: "I met with Kevin Reeves recently and at that time they were tied up with sorting out Charles N'Zogbia's future but now that that deal has gone through there may be movement"

"We haven't had an official approach for James since then but there are a lot of clubs watching James in Dublin.

"So we are waiting to see if someone comes forward."

"There's no doubt that sometimes James is worth the price of admission to the Brandywell on his own"

"The player wants to do the best for himself and push himself and he wants to go to England.

"We are not going to hold out for a silly fee for him, but we have to do what is right for Derry City Football Club."

Championship club Peterborough United had agreed a fee with Derry early last month for McClean, thought to be around 275,000, but the move broke down due to the demands from the players agent, Posh Chairman Barry Fry, explains: "He was only interested in securing his own 10 percent rather than looking after his players"

"We were offering the young player the chance to play Championship football and he seemed to think he was dealing with Manchester United not Peterborough United."

Philip O'Doherty isn't afraid to conduct his business in the media, anyone would think he's trying to flog his player to the highest bidder
