West Brom Show Interest In Chris Kirkland

The Birmingham Mail are reporting that West Brom are looking to take Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland back to the Hawthorns as number 2 behind loanee Ben Foster.

Kirkland had a season long loan at West Brom in 2005/06, the season before he signed for the Latics, although that period was interrupted with his long standing injury the Mail say that West Brom are confident that their renowned medical centre can sort out Kirkland and talks have already begun.

The former England keeper would be available on a free transfer from the Latics

Baggies boss Roy Hodgson says that the club need a good understudy for Foster, speaking to the Mail Hodgson said: "By allowing Boaz Myhill to go we are definitely in the market for a back-up keeper, which is a very important job"

"It`s a role that is very underestimated.

"Someone who has to sit on the bench on Saturday but has an important job for us during the week, with our preparation and training.

"We are searching for someone suitable who will step into that role."

Chris Kirkland hasn`t featured in any of the preseason games for the Latics
