Lawro Predicts - Latics v Norwich

Lawro Predicts - Latics v Norwich

Well the new season is upon us and so are Lawros Predictions, the former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro' Lawrenson has once again been summoned to do his weekly round of predictions for the BBC, he starts the new season exactly like he started the last one, he is predicting that this Saturday's Premier League opening day clash between Wigan Athletic and Norwich City at the DW Stadium will end in a home win for the Latics, let`s see what his reasons are:

Wigan v Norwich

Wigan have lost Charles N'Zogbia and look weaker than they did at the end of last season. Roberto Martinez gets a lot out of his players but if they are not careful, eventually they will fall through the trapdoor.

The Latics were so inconsistent last time out - within games not just game-to-game - and I cannot see that being any different this campaign.

Similarly with Norwich, we do not know what to expect. You do not look at the raft of signings that Paul Lambert has made and think they are definitely going to stay up, because hardly any of them have played in the Premier League before.

Whether the Canaries do survive or not will depend on their record against the teams around them at the bottom, as well at home, which is why games like this will be important.

But I cannot see them surviving despite the fact that Lambert has done a great job to get them up.

Wigan got thumped by Blackpool on the opening day last season, and they definitely won't want that to happen again against another newly promoted side. It might be a false dawn for the Latics but I see them winning this one.

Prediction: 2-0

Well I agree with Lawro on the result and scoreline, I'm a little nervous, but I can't see the Latics falling again to opening night nerves, well I hope not, 2-0 Latics win for me.

Latics v Brighton - Big Game Preview

Latics are back at the DW Stadium this afternoon following a very creditable draw on Tuesday away at Leeds, the game extending our unbeaten run to four, which must give us something of a platform to build on as the season is starting to take shape.

Brighton are flying high at the moment, currently 3rd in the Championship with just one away defeat, Newcastle at St James's Park and they have players, especially in attack, of exceptional quality at this level.
