Following an amazing end to last season the new one couldn't come around quickly enough, well now it's here and the buzz is definitely growing.
We may have lost Charlie to Aston Villa during the summer, but who didn't expect that he`d be on his way? Ali Al-Habsi has signed on a permanent deal from Bolton and Dave Jones has also found his way to the DW via Wolves, apart from a few young ones coming in and a lot of dead weight going out that`s about it at the moment on the transfer front.
So barring N'Zogbia and of course Tom Cleverley, who's gone back to Manchester United following his loan spell coming to an end, we have basically the same squad that finished the season in such style
The euphoria of the Birmingham, Blackpool, West Ham and Stoke wins that lifted the fans to unprecedented highs needs to be carried into this new campaign, we're on a run of no defeats in four and just two in nine since that win over Birmingham.
Season ticket sales are on the increase with the Wigan public getting behind the Latics and, despite the idiotic national press saying otherwise, the new season is full of promise, we have a bright young manager, a talented and very youthful squad of players and the hope that the club might be able to push on to the next level in the Premier League.
With the opening game at home a great start could be on the cards, though Norwich will certainly be no pushovers, they also have a bright young manager and a good squad of players, plus two promotions in two years suggest that they are on a roll, but the Latics must be ready for the challenge and the right start, which I believe will be a 2-0 win in our favour, will start the season off in the right way and we will carry on that momentum which we started at the tail end of last season.
The Latics fans have a massive roll to play once again this season and that fact isn't lost on manager Roberto Martinez who says: 'We all remember the incredible finish to last season and that would not have been possible without the energy and warmth of the fans.
'We've shown throughout our history that we can overcome any obstacle and defeat any opponent by sticking together and now is the time for that Wigan Athletic spirit.
'I want fans to be proud of their club and we're relying on their role and voice in order to enjoy another successful season.'
Let's raise the roof on the new season and by starting in the right way we will also be sticking two fingers up to the knockers and mockers of our great club. Wigan Athletic, seventh heaven is just about to start, C'mon!
