Adrian Lopez - Bloody Marvel

Wigan Athletic defender Adrian Lopez cut a figure reminiscent of former England captain Terry Butcher on Saturday in Latics 1-1 opening day draw against Norwich, when, despite having a head wound that was flooding blood down his face, the former Deportivo La Coruna player carried on for the best part of an hour.

Butcher famously 'played on' despite looking like an extra in a horror movie in a 1989 World Cup qualifier in Sweden and Lopez followed his example of bravery.

Following an accidental clash of heads with Norwich striker Steve Morison just 10 minutes into the game, Lopez was forced to have lengthy treatment to try and stop the flow of blood, he was in the dressing room for a full 15 minutes before emerging with his head bandaged up like some 1980's fashion icon.

Another patching up during the half-time interval allowed Lopez to continue for the start of the second half, but on 82 minutes, and with blood streaming down his face onto his shirt the brave defender finally succumbed and was replaced by Ronnie Stam.
