Wigan Athletic new boy Shaun Maloney says he can't wait to get started at the Latics.
Signed from Celtic on deadline day, the 28 year old winger revealed that it was Latics boss Roberto Martinez's positivity that made it impossible for him to say no to the move, the pull of the Premier League and Latics ambitions also played a big part
Speaking to the Latics official website Maloney said: 'I spoke to the manager a couple of days ago and that started to be the reason why, over the last couple of days, I thought this would be something that excites me. I can't wait to get started.
'It was a tough decision leaving Celtic, I grew up with the club and returned for a second spell not too long ago, but after speaking with both clubs I feel the time was right for the move.
'It's a Premier League club with big ambitions which was really appealing to me and the Manager was so positive when I was speaking with him that you can't help but want to play, train and work hard under him.'
'It's my second chance in the Premier League, I had a really enjoyable time with Aston Villa last time round and I'm looking forward to the challenge again.
'There are a few Scottish boys that I know already here and, of course, I played with Gary (Caldwell) at Celtic so we're already good friends and it'll be good to play alongside one another again.
'Again I spoke with him in the lead-up to the move and he was just as happy as I was at the prospect of joining Wigan Athletic, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again and the rest of my new team-mates.'
An excited Shaun Maloney
