Wigan Athletic Player Ratings v Man City

Wigan Athletic came up against an excellent Manchester City side yesterday, losing 3-0 in the process, but even though the scoreline was heavy in the favour of City the Latics can take some consolation that there were some good performances from the men in dark blue and lime green, giving his appraisal of the players here is this weeks player ratings by Vital member Jonathan Moffatt, aka J_Mo:

Ali Al-Habsi - 7
Not at fault for any of the goals, and saved a penalty early on which prevented a potential rout.

Emmerson Boyce - 6
Tough game for Boycey. Got forward well, but struggled to cope at the back.

Gary Caldwell - 6
Made a couple of crucial tackles and blocks, but also made some poor decisions in the build up to at least two of the goals.

Adrian Lopez - 5
His inexperience showed in this game. Conceded penalty with a rash challenge, and City's strikers got the better of him with worrying ease.

Maynor Figueroa - 6
Did ok, but like the rest of the back four had a tough time in defence.

Ben Watson - 5
Poor game. Let down by unusually wayward passing.

James McArthur - 5
Presumably started instead of Gomez to make our midfield more solid, but was virtually invisible.

Momo Diame - 7
The best player in our midfield. Worked hard off the ball and got forward when given the opportunity.

Victor Moses - 6
Mixed game. Caused a couple of problems, but dispossessed too often when ambitiously trying to dribble through City's defence.

Hugo Rodallega - 6
Quiet game, although this was mostly due to Man City's dominance. Had a difficult chance which could have given us an equaliser.

Franco Di Santo - 7
Full of energy as usual, and earned himself a chance which he should have done better with after forcing Lescott into an error.

Subs:

Ronnie Stam - 6
Defensively questionable, but got forward well a couple of times.

Jordi Gomez - 6
Did ok, but the game was already over by the time he came onto the pitch.

Albert Crusat - 5
Needs time to adapt to the Premier League. Was easily brushed off the ball three times within the first five minutes.

Tough game and stage for little Alberts introduction, he did look to have tidy feet though
