Wigan Athletic Fans Player Ratings v Everton

Wigan Athletic Fans Player Ratings v Everton

Wigan Athletic came away from Everton on Saturday with nothing but a consolation goal, on another day we could have got at least a point, the Latics can take some consolation that there were some good performances from the men in all white, giving his appraisal of the players here is this weeks player ratings by Vital member Adam Vincent, aka DiamesLoveChild, over to you Adam:

Ali Al-Habsi: 7 - Did not do much today, made some good catches and made some good stops, especially a good save to his right early on.

Piscu: 6 - Though does not deserve as much stick as he gets, he looked a little overhanded vs Baines and could not handle him, he did put his foot in though, but right back was too much for him.

Caldwell: 6 - Did not do as good as he can be, i love his leadership and is vastly underrated in the team, he shouts and helps the defenders out, but today he seem to have to help out Piscu too much which in regard was too much of a ask for him.

Figueroa: 6 - Jekyll and Hide, he made a great penetrating run in the second half and looks like a good centreback when he does that, but his positioning in the centre is questionable, especially for Jagielka's goal. Left back for me.

Van Aanholt: 8 - When we loaned him out, I only knew he was highly rated by Chelsea fans and saw him as a understudy to Cole, it`s fair to say, with his constant energy up and down the left, skill and tackling, he looks like a steal of a loan, unlucky not to score and it seems Figueroa is going to really struggle to get ahead of him at this rate.

Ben Watson: 7 - Was the only midfielder who was trying to get us going, Ben is one of, if not our best player, his passing can be amazing, today though, he got no support, he made some passes and sometimes made some great attacks but it was one of those games where we was forced back a lot.

Jordi Gomez: 6 - He was alright, when we got forward he was trying to make stuff happen, he got it wide a few times but did not really do much.

James McCarthy: 6 - All I saw was him running around, when he got the ball he passed it, but he did not do too much at all to comment.

Moses: 7 - Let`s be honest, he is a good player, he really needs to keep starting games, he will only thrive from it, he was alright today, he direct running always pleases me and when he did Baines with ease we was unlucky not to score as no one was on the end of it. Gone missing in parts though.

Hugo Rodallega: 6 - Worked hard, always gave the ball to Aanholt in to be fair held Hugo together, only things Hugo annoyed me with was his wild shots and his awful final ball, but he is a Striker, not a winger, picked up a horrible injury so get well soon Hugo!

Di Santo: 7 - Franco Di Flecto got another trademark goal, but nothing more than he deserves, his work rate is amazing, it`s only fair to say that he deserves to start, he really helps the team, confidence is growing, a lot of faith in Franco at the moment!

Sub notes:

Jones: came on, hit the bar, got that forward pass in him, good sub performance by him, feel sorry he did not score, especially straight after we conceded, unlucky day for us.

Maloney: Did not really have enough time, which was the only disappointment in my case, we did not bring any forward subs on to try and win the game.

All in all, we deserved a point, but our defence never got the ball and pushed up as we could, cagey from us, But I know we will do well in the league. I might be fickle but give me a day after a loss and i will regain my realism and optimism!

Brentford v Latics - Big Game Preview

A difficult game for the Latics this afternoon as they travel down to Brentford, the Bees have been scoring for fun so far at this campaign on their home turf, but we need to build upon a good win against Wolves on Tuesday and turn around our away form.

The Latics pulled out of the bottom three courtesy of Will Grigg's late, late winner, Grigg was of course signed for the Latics from Brentford, where some say he wasn't given much of a chance under Mark Warburton, so he will be eager to go
