James McCarthy Named In Republic Of Ireland Squad

Wigan Athletic midfield man James McCarthy has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming Euro qualifiers against Andorra (away) and Armenia (home), the games are set to take place on Friday October 7th and Tuesday October 11th respectively.

Two wins and the Republic would almost certainly be runners-up and head off to a play-off tie, but there is a chance that with two victories they could also clinch the group winners spot and qualify automatically for next summers tournament.

Rivals and group leaders Russia are two points ahead of the Irish and face Slovakia away on Friday, a side that they have already lost to in this campaign, anything less than a win and Trapattoni's men could be in.

Full Republic of Ireland Squad: Shay Given (Aston Villa), Keiren Westwood (Sunderland), David Forde (Millwall), John O'Shea (Sunderland), Kevin Foley (Wolves), Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Stephen Ward (Wolves), Richard Dunne (Aston Villa), Kevin Kilbane (Derby), Sean St Ledger (Leicester), Darren O'Dea (Leeds), Damien Delaney (Ipswich), Glenn Whelan (Stoke), James McCarthy (Wigan), Seamus Coleman (Everton), Keith Andrews (Ipswich) Keith Fahey (Birmingham), Andy Keogh (Leeds), Damien Duff (Fulham), Aiden McGeady (Spartak Moscow), Stephen Hunt (Wolves), Liam Lawrence (Portsmouth), Robbie Keane (Los Angeles Galaxy), Kevin Doyle (Wolves), Shane Long (West Brom), Simon Cox (West Brom), Jon Walters (Stoke).
