Meet The Ref - Newcastle v Latics - Neil Swarbrick

The Newcastle United v Wigan Athletic Premier League clash at St. James' Park on Saturday will be refereed by Preston based official Neil Swarbrick.

The 41 year old whistle blower is in his first season as a top flight official having been promoted to the select group of referees back in June, though his first top flight game was last season when he took charge of the Fulham v Sunderland goalless draw in December last year.

Swarbrick was a late comer to the woes of a referee and he only picked up his whistle at the age of 29, he started life off in the the Northern Premier League before moving onto the Conference, making it to the Football League in 2005. Here's hoping for a good game from him on Saturday
