Wigan Athletic defender Emmerson Boyce says 'sacrifice the performance and get the result - make it count' and with the Latics sitting in the bottom three it's difficult to argue with his sentiments.
Football is a results business, we need points to stay in the Premier League, so gaining them must be at the top o the agenda for Latics boss Roberto Martinez, looking back at some of the games this season, especially the Bolton match and the performances have been pretty shocking anyway, but on Saturday up at Newcastle there was a determination about the side, a fight and buzz thats been missing recently, Boyce accepts that but says 'I'd rather sacrifice the performance if it meant getting the result we need to kick start the season.'
Boycey has been around long enough and he knows that next Saturdays game at the DW against Fulham is very important, a win and suddenly points on the board and smiles all around, another defeat and, well it doesn't bear thinking about whatever the performance.
Speaking to the clubs official website Boyce said: 'We can't question the performance but we have to stop saying that now and start picking up results'
'We had a few good chances, their goalkeeper made some great saves but it's time we began putting those chances away and collecting points to go with these displays.
'In recent weeks we've let ourselves down in terms of performances and results, so against Newcastle we were determined to prove people wrong and show what we're made of.
'We've all worked hard throughout the week to cut out the mistakes that have cost us so much recently and it showed on the pitch.
'The difference at the end of the day is that when their chance came up they took it and they took it well.
'In the end the performance was there, but now is the time we have to start scoring goals and picking up points.'
'I felt we were more of a team today and created some great chances, doing some of the positives things we haven't been lately.
'The next step is getting the results to make it count, and every game between now and Christmas is going to be vital because we don't want to be in this position come Christmas.
'We have to get the result next weekend against Fulham now, at this point I'd rather sacrifice the performance if it meant getting the result we need to kick start the season.'
