Ali Al-Habsi - Much Better

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi says that the defeat to Newcastle on Saturday was hard to take, especially following a vastly improved performance from the previous week against Bolton.

Ali says that there were words spoken at the training ground, everyone had their say after the Bolton shambles, and that the frank exchange of views paid dividends with the much improved performance up at St. James' Park, just a pity about the result.

The 29 year old Oman international says that the team are now focusing on turning the Newcastle performance into points gaining games against Fulham and Wolves, which Ali says are 'two massive games' and 'we absolutely have to take something out of both of those'

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Ali said: 'We showed a fantastic attitude, we were solid across the park, but we just didn't take our chances'

'It was important to show a response to what happened against Bolton, and we did that and to lose the game is almost too hard to take.

'We deserved at least a point, if not more, and if we can continue to play like that, I'm sure we'll be all right.'

'Everybody had their say after what happened against Bolton - the gaffer and the players - and the response was there for everyone to see'

'The whole team was outstanding, from front to back, and we can't allow those standards to slip over the coming weeks.

'We have two massive games coming up now, against Fulham and Wolves, and we absolutely have to take something out of both of those to give us a chance.'
