Wigan Athletic 12th Man 10/11/11

In this weeks 12th Man feature in the Wigan Evening Post there is one contribution from Vital Latics:

An Air Of Inevitability?

Is there an air of inevitability about this season? It may be only November and there are still a mammoth amount of points to play for, but, nine straight defeats leaves you feeling quite pessimistic about the months ahead and where the current road will lead.

Performance wise it hasn`t been that bad, or as it? We`ve created chances, though the inability to score and defend has made us vulnerable, I suppose in reflection that the performances have been bad, just masked by some good individual displays.

Ali was, once again, exceptional last Sunday in the defeat at Wolves, three saves in particular were absolutely breath-taking, Momo Diame has been good in the middle of the park, a real class player but too often having to do it all himself, the same can be said of Victor Moses, sparkling but isolated.

The effort is there, the huff and puff but something is missing and that`s the worry. Hard work alone doesn`t appear to be enough to turn around the dreadful run that we`re on, the craft and guile missing since the sale of Charles N`Zogbia and the return to Manchester United of Tom Cleverley has massively affected the cutting edge of the team, couple this with the alarming dip in form of both James McCarthy - whatever has happened there - and Hugo Rodallega, leaving just Diame and Moses to carry the hopes going forward and the sole reliance on Ali at the back, all too much.

Defeats to relegation rivals Bolton, Fulham and Wolves looked to have knocked the stuffing out of the team, at the final whistle on Sunday the team were visibly deflated and this is another worry with some very difficult fixtures on the horizon the players can`t afford to start dropping their heads or the desperate situation that we are in will get a whole lot worse.
