Wigan Athletic - 12th Man 14/12/11

This weeks 12th Man page in the Wigan Evening Post has one contribution from Vital Latics:

A Real Buzz Around The Place

Out of the bottom three following Saturdays win at West Brom felt really good, I know we're back in there with Sunderland beating Blackburn on Sunday but the 24 hours of freedom from the dread zone didn't half feel good and offered hope for the rest of the season.

Take away the Arsenal game and what a turnaround, from seemingly being dead and buried after the defeat at Wolves in early November, Martinez has got his side to grind out the points. It would have been so easy for the old Latics to have capitulated after going a goal down on Saturday, but the new found confidence that the manager has instilled in his side saw them get straight back in the game with a superb Victor Moses strike. Jordi Gomez scored his third goal in four games to ensure that all the points would be heading back up the M6 and set us up nicely for two tough home games against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chelsea will arrive at the DW buoyant after their victory over Manchester City put them back into the title race, hopefully they will be a little over confident and open up for us to have a go back at them. Traditionally we do well against the West Londoners in comparison to the other big clubs in the Premier League, a draw on Saturday would be a good result, in fact three points out of the next three games, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United would be quite acceptable and be a great end to the year.

There is no doubt that we are still in trouble, but the gloom of a few weeks ago now appears to have been lifted, there is a definite buzz around the players, they appear to be much more relaxed on the field and their support play has improved dramatically over the past few games, the emergence of Jordi Gomez and Victor Moses hitting fine form gives a genuine hope, or have I had too much festive spirit?

A point on Saturday will do me tbh

it could be bad, but if the defense plays together and our midfield dont give them too much space, a draw is possible
