Conor Sammon Wins Red Card Appeal

Wigan Athletic have announced that they have successfully appealed Conor Sammon's red card that he received at Old Trafford on Boxing Day

The Latics striker was given his marching orders for the most innocuous of fouls by referee Phil Dowd, a decision that had the entire football world scratching their heads has now been overturned by the FA and Sammon is eligible to take his place on Saturday for the visit to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez: 'We thank the panel for their decision, which is the correct one. We now need to draw a line under the matter and move on. I am delighted to have Conor available for the next three matches.'

'It would have been really unfair for him to share the frustrating feeling that he had on Monday for another three games after doing nothing wrong.'

I should think so too

Quite right. What tees me off is the real cheat in all this, Carrick, gets away scot free. Not a word from anyone about his play-acting to get another player sent off. Cheating is, it would appear, entirely legitimate, and so much so, no-one bats an eyelid. I like football but hate footballers.

A lesson in common sense one thinks but it still dos`not excuse Mr dowd stupidity
BlueGoose
BlueGoose-Dowd was conned by Carrick. What happened to the days when players reacted normally to any contact, and more so intervened to stop players getting booked or sent off? The opposite applies now, and it stinks.
lordjohnny
How right you are lordjohnny Carrick did conn ref phil dowd and that's what make`s him stupid he`s supposed to be a professional so lets move on and see what the stoke game brings.
