Meet The Ref - Latics v City - Martin Atkinson

The Wigan Athletic v Manchester City game at the DW Stadium next Monday will be refereed by the same referee who was in charge of the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium back in September, Martin Atkinson.

Atkinson was also in charge of the Latics 1-1 draw with Chelsea back in December at the DW, the usually exuberant official didn't produce a single card in that game and only blew up for 14 free kicks in the whole game, wonders never cease.

The Bradford born whistle blower has been refereeing since he was 16 and he was in charge of last seasons FA cup final between City and Stoke

He's at his best when he plays in the midfield just behind Aguero.
