Wigan Athletic 12th Man - 12/01/12

This week 12th Man Page in the Wigan Evening Post featured one piece from Vital Latics:

FA Cup Hopes Shattered

My FA cup bubble has been popped for another season, why I thought this time would be any different I don't know, the Latics haven't won more than two games in the FA cup in one season since 1986/87 when we reached the quarter finals, not the best competition for us, but still each year I dream of a trip to Wembley and the glory of Cup Final day.

The excitement that fans feel when the draw is made sets up some great ties and memorable matches. Yet manager after manager at the Latics have appeared to look on the world's greatest and oldest cup competition as no more than a distraction to the busy life of league football, quite disrespectful in my opinion.

The romance of the cup wasn't lost on our opponents on Saturday, Swindon played with heart and a desire to make round 4, we played without a hope of making the draw, lacklustre and inept, a really sorry performance, we got exactly what we deserved from the game, absolutely nothing, let's just hope the performance doesn't carry through to the league.

Next up its Manchester City, the Premier League leaders will give the Latics a massive test, Mancini's men are a class apart, they have quality throughout their side and are a joy to watch, except of course when they are playing your team.

Martinez will need to ensure his players are up for this challenge, one they will face without player of the season so far Momo Diame, who is off to the African Cup of Nations for the next few weeks. Let's put the cup debacle behind us and give City a proper game.
