Kirkland Called Up For England

Chris Kirkland has become the first Wigan Athletic player, albeit on loan from Liverpool, to be called up to the full England squad.

This means the Latics have eight players called up for international duty the week before the opening game of the season against Newcastle United.

He will go into the team as the likely number 2 goalkeeper behind Tottenham Hotspur`s Paul Robinson for the friendly match against Greece at Old Trafford.

The line-up in full is


Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur FC), Chris Kirkland (Wigan Athletic FC), Ben Foster (Watford FC).

Defenders: Ashley Cole (Arsenal FC), Luke Young (Charlton Athletic FC), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea FC), John Terry (Chelsea FC), Phil Neville (Everton FC), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool FC), Wes Brown (Manchester United FC), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United FC), Gary Neville (Manchester United FC), Michael Dawson (Tottenham Hotspur FC).

Does anyone know if the time has passed for Kirklands Dad to win £thousands on his son playing for England? I think it had to be done before he reached a certain age!
