Vital Latics Look At The Latest Transfer Gossip

Vital Latics Look At The Latest Transfer Gossip

The final week in the transfer window usually brings about a lot of speculation in the media about the comings and goings at clubs, of course Wigan Athletic are under the spot light just as much as anyone else, so what's been happening and what's not.

The club confirmed the signing of Birmingham City player Jean Beausejour on Wednesday, the Chile international joining for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be anything from £2.1m to £4 million depending on which paper you read.

The Latics issued a statement denying any fee agreed with Bristol City for striker Nicky Maynard, indeed Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson said: 'An informal enquiry was made as to the player's availability last week, but that really is as far as it goes at this stage.

'We are therefore disappointed by suggestions that talks are in an advanced stage"

Naughty Bristol City who insinuated that they'd accepted an offer for Maynard from the Latics, are they fishing by any chance?

Various national and local media are linking the Latics with a loan move for Manchester United reserve striker Mame Biram Diouf the player himself recently said he'd be open to a move to the Latics

Blackburn midfield man Keith Andrews is another player that has been linked to the Latics over the past couple of weeks, the Republic of Ireland international is currently on loan at Ipswich, he is apparently excelling with the Championship club, maybe because thats his level.

Strong rumours coming from the Netherlands suggest that Roberto Martinez has his sights set on Rennes striker John Verhoek, the French club have loaned the 22 year old 6' 2' front man to Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, Verhoek is currently their leading goalscorer with 5 from 13 gmes

The Sun, Mirror, Mail, Star and Express are reporting that we have made a bid somewhere in the region of £700,000, we shall see

Strong speculation that the next signing this window will be a defender but no names being put forward from the media, though last week Swansea centre back Ashley Williams was sort of mentioned, cant see that one happening

On the departing side both Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses are being touted as targets for QPR, well they would seeing that QPR are being linked with just about every player on the planet at the moment, Hugo is reportedly the subject of a £4 million bid (Mirror) whilst Vic is desperately wanted by the West London side

So lots of speculation, personally I love it, keeps the Latics in the news and quite frankly I find it exciting, also distract's from the fact that we are at the bottom of the league!

John Verhoek is actually the type of player that we'd be interested in, so can see that one being true, but we need a defender, desperately

Saw a headline "Shock Exit for Diame" - nearly gave me a heart attack - but it's good news (for us)!
