Wigan Athletic In The Gulf - Oman 0-1 Latics

Oman 0-1 Latics (Sammon 50 mins)

Wigan Athletic beat Oman 1-0 in the Seeb Stadium this afternoon and in doing so became the first English Premier League club to play in the Gulf state

A second half strike by Conor Sammon, described on twitter as a 'bobbling shot' was the difference between the two sides, Oman hit the bar but this was more of a PR exercise than a competitive match.

Keeper Ali Al-Habsi played the first 45 minutes for Oman and then played the first 20 minutes of the second half for the Latics, young keeper Lee Nicholls getting his first start in the Latics senior eleven did really well, Vital Latics member Emirates who watched the game live said: 'Lee Nichols played really well. He made three excellent saves. Two were from free-kicks. He's my man of the match.

'Al Habsi made more saves playing for Oman, but his best save of the night was when he was in a Wigan shirt.'

So the Latics make a little piece of history and hopefully a few new friends

Wigan Athletic: Nicholls (Al Habsi 45), Stam, Lopez, Caldwell (Gohouri 45), Figueroa, Crusat, McArthur (Watson 45), Diame (Thomas 45), Moses (McManaman 45), Di Santo (Sammon 45) , Gomez (Rodallega 45).
