Meet The Ref - Latics v Villa - Kevin Friend



Wigan Athletic entertain Aston Villa on Saturday at the DW Stadium, Martinez's men will be hoping to build on the excellent performance and result gained at the Reebok Stadium last weekend, the Latics beat local rivals Bolton 2-1, they also played them off the park.

Villa arrive at the DW just nine points better off than the Latics and they are in danger of being dragged into the relegation fight. Saturday will undoubtedly be a cagey affair, McLeish will, as usual, have his team set up to play it tight and hard, trying to avoid defeat at all costs, this could be a game for a strong referee, so who do we have taking charge of proceedings, Leicester official Kevin Friend that's who

The fussy official has been in charge of just the one Latics game this season, our away win at Sunderland back in November, in that game he awarded the Latics a penalty, which Jordi Gomez duly dispatched and played enough stoppage time for Franco Di Santo to poke home a last ditch winner, here's hoping that he is a good omen.
