Record Breaker - The Legend That Is Emmerson Boyce

Wigan Athletic defender Emmerson Boyce is set to become the all time Latics Premier League appearance record holder if he keeps his place in the team for tomorrows home clash with Aston Villa

The 32 year old Barbados international equalled former player, Paul Scharner's total of 145 Premier League appearances in the 2-1 away win at Bolton Wanderers last time out, now the extremely likeable former Crystal Palace and Luton player is set to cement his name in the Latics history books.

Signing for the club in the summer of 2006, then manager Paul Jewell paid Crystal Palace £1million for Boyce, who was brought in as replacement for Spurs bound right back Pascal Chimbonda, though Boycey has played centre back on numerous occasions since.

A firm fans favourite he made his debut on August 19th 2006 away at Newcastle in a 2-1 defeat, now in his sixth season with the club Emmerson Boyce is set to enter true legend status.

It would be fitting, if Boycey is in the starting line-up tomorrow, that the club make him captain for the day so he can lead the players out onto the pitch and receive a well deserved accolade from the supporters

We all know what a great player and servant Boycey has been to the Latics, but there are also numerous stories of him going the extra mile for the supporters, always having time for the fans whether it be a chat or photo, I have my own, the time my son was out in Iraq and Boycey wrote a personal message to him, little things that mean quite a lot, already a legend with the supporters, now to be acknowledged in the record books

Emmerson Boyce, great player, true gentleman and Latics Legend
