Wigan Athletic 12th Man - 1/03/12

This weeks 12th Man page in the Wigan Evening Post featured one contribution from Vital Latics:

Villa Were There For The Taking

Another good performance from the Latics on Saturday but unfortunately the same old story of being shy in front of goal let us down again. Villa were definitely there for the taking, the Latics had 14 corners and umpteen attempts on goal, but only two on target during the ninety minutes is a pretty poor return.

Roberto Martinez talked after the game about a goal fest that is due, I'd say forget the goal fest and make sure that we score at least one more than our opponents. We did at Bolton and hey presto three points were in the bag. The Everton and Villa games saw the Latics drop valuable points because they couldn't convert their superiority on the day into goals, four points lost that would have had us up to 16th in the table

Next up is Swansea, they aren't the best travellers in the Premier League by any stretch of the imagination. They have gained just 9 of their 30 points away from the Liberty Stadium, though they did win at West Brom at the beginning of February, also there is the Martinez effect, Swansea will be desperate to get one over their old boss, so it won't be an easy game, but if the Latics are to get off the foot of the table it's the type of game that they really should be winning

A bit of shooting practice in training this week will hopefully pay some dividends on Saturday, so might a start for Rodallega, surely the Latics Premier League record goal scorer is needed on the field of play and not sat on the bench.

Talking of Premier League records, I can't finish without giving big congratulations to Emmerson Boyce who set a new Latics Premier League appearance record on Saturday, 146 to his name and still going strong, well done Boycey

We need to start taking those chances, mind you how long have we been saying that for?
