Neil And Matt - Cycle For Emma

Two former Wigan Athletic captains, Neil Rimmer and Matt Jackson, are set to undertake a mammoth bike ride ahead of the Latics game away at Norwich next weekend, Neil and Matt are going to cycle the 244 miles between the two football grounds in aid of Wigan girl Emma Hoolin.

This is the latest in a number of events that have had the full backing of the Wigan public as the town has really rallied round for five year old Emma who is currently undergoing treatment for Neuroblastoma.

I spoke to Neil on the Walk4Emma a couple of weeks ago and he told me that he was "really looking forward to the bike ride". With the time of the event drawing ever closer Neil`s enthusiasm doesn`t appear to have diminished. Greg Farrimond of the Wigan Evening Post spoke to Neil this week, Greg and the Post have kindly allowed us to reproduce that interview here:

Speaking to the Post Neil said - "I've made sure we've got a pretty good route sorted and we've got the hotels booked.

"We've kept it pretty flat so it shouldn't be too rough, we're just raring to go now.

"It's for such a wonderful cause and the way not only the club but the town has got behind this makes you really proud to be from Wigan.

"The Emma Hoolin Appeal really has caught everybody's hearts and hopefully we can raise as much as we can."

Neil of course was involved in the Walk4Emma and he commented on this - "That was such a great day, seeing so many fans get involved. Hopefully we can have similar success because that captured the heart of the town once again.

"The players are all supporting us too. A lot don't seem to know just how far it is but the British lads think we're mad! They all know about Emma though and are completely behind the appeal."

Neil and Matt will be joined by Latics centre of excellence scouts Kenny Williams and Gary Sloane

Best of luck to the four cyclists and here at Vital we will be keeping a watchful eye on their progress as they set off from Wigan next Wednesday.
