What The Boss Said - Norwich 1-1 Latics

Wigan Athletic drew at Norwich 1-1 yesterday, and although they were well on top, the Latics once again found it difficult to turn their dominance into a win, if relegation does come around this season, failure in front of goal will be the downfall

After the game Latics boss Roberto Martinez spoke about the lack of composure in the final third that his team suffers from, let's take a look at what he said:

'Norwich started brighter in the first 15 minutes and it took us time to adjust to the tactical set-up, but once we did we looked the more dangerous side and created the better chances.

'We also kept Norwich very quiet and they're a big attacking threat at home, but we dealt with the crosses well and limited them to very little.

'Then when they needed help from their keeper Ali (Al Habsi) was there to pull off a fantastic save from Steve Morison's header.

'I always felt we looked solid at the back after Norwich took the lead, then when Shaun Maloney came on he gave us the doses of creativity we needed and the chances kept coming.

'Maybe a little bit of luck and composure in the final third would have brought us the three points we deserved.'

'We couldn't get Victor involved in the game enough in the early stages of the game, but gradually we saw his real threat and the pace he has in getting behind the defence.

'His clinical finish was something special; we all know the talent he's got and we're extremely proud to have him at the football club.'

'I thought Hugo's movement throughout the game was outstanding; he occupied the position very well against two defenders.

'He had some good shots and opportunities but was unfortunate with the bounce of the ball and couldn't get his rewards, but his performance brought a great deal to the team and that's going to be vital between now and the end of the season.

'Let's take these levels into Saturday's home game against West Brom and as always be together fighting for the same cause.

'There will be a lot of games between now and the end of the season that will dictate the points tally needed to survive, but we'll focus our attentions on each game as it comes.

'If we replicate the levels shown against Norwich and approach those games with the same attitude then I'm in no doubt we'll get the points we need to stay up.'
