Latics Legends In Star Wars Benefit Game

A Wigan Athletic Legends team is set to take to the field against Golborne Sports Club in a benefit game to raise funds for a local woman who is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.

The game will take place on Friday May 4th with a 7pm kick-off, an easy way to remember the date of this fixture is the old Star Wars pun, 'May the 4th be with you!'

Angela Charles was diagnosed with MND shortly before Christmas, in some cases this illness can be quite aggressive, unfortunately Angela is one of those cases. It is quite apparent that her home will need some structural changes so that it can be adapted to make her life more comfortable and help her family manage her condition.

There is a utility room that needs to be converted to a wet room to allow her to shower and have toilet facilities on the ground floor of her home, other changes and adaptions are also needed so that she can move around the house freely in a wheelchair.

There are no funds or benefits available from social services for this work to be carried out. Angie's husband Ray has had to finish work in order to care for his wife full time, so obviously their finances are stretched to the limit.

Ray Charles has been associated with Golborne Sports Club for over 20 years, he has represented the club on the football field at various levels and is currently a member of the vets squad, former Latics player Kevin Langley knows Ray through both their associations with Golborne Sports, Kev wants to help out in some way and has come up with the idea of the benefit game.

As advertised the game will be played on Friday the 4th May, it will take place at Golborne Sports Club, Stone Cross Lane, Lowton, kick-off time will be 7pm, admission for the game is just £3 for over 12's. Kids will be allowed in free.

More details as to the confirmed squad will be published closer to the time
