Rob Kiernan Off To Accrington On Loan

Wigan Athletic youngster Rob Kiernan has joined League 2 outfit Accrington Stanley on loan until the end of the season

The 21 year old centre-back joined the Latics in the summer after turning down a contract extension at Watford, Kiernan was recommended to Wigan Athletic by former club skipper Matt Jackson and the Republic of Ireland under 21 international is highly regarded at the club

Kiernan has featured throughout the season for the reserves putting in some excellent performances, Latics boss Roberto Martinez now feels that it's time for the youngster to get some first team experience to bring him on to the next level, speaking to the Latics official website Martinez said: 'This is a fantastic opportunity for Rob to enjoy competitive football at a high standard, and I'm sure his development will continue at Accrington.

'We have a number of young players out on loan at the moment all getting much needed First Team action at this stage of their career and we look forward to welcoming them back as new players at the end of the season.'
