As we draw into the final games of the season, we find ourselves in the bottom three, we are once again in the thick of a relegation fight, effectively there are five teams scrapping over the two spots that will give you Premier League football for another season.
We've been here before, and in that adversity, we, as a football club, the fans, manager, coaching staff and the players, had one thing that helped us get out of the mire and triumph to live another day, we had belief.
We believed collectively that we could do it, we believed collectively that we were good enough to do it and we believed collectively that we would do it.
The most iconic moment from the final game of last season at Stoke wasn't Hugo pointing to the name on the back of his shirt following his goal, it wasn't the players throwing Martinez up in the air, it wasn't Charles N'Zogbia spraying Dave Whelan with champagne, but it was a banner that was passed around the Latics fans in the way stand at the Britannia Stadium, that banner had one word written on it, that word was BELIEVE
By permission of Bernard Platt/Wigan Athletic
Vital member Laticus brought to our attention a poem by an unknown author that sums up what the typical Latics fan has in their heart with regards to our great club
Believe in what is possible
Believe in what is impossible
Believe that all things are possible
Believe the impossible can be possible
Believe, believe, just believe
And when you are at the end of your rope and can believe no more
Believe that you can believe again.
Do we have the belief again this season? Absolutely, how can we not have the belief with the way the team has been playing of late, how can we not have the belief following that fantastic win last weekend away at Liverpool and how can we not have belief when we know in our hearts that we will pull ourselves out of this situation, yes we do believe
Saturday Stoke are in town, let`s show the players how much we really do believe, let's get behind them and roar them on to victory. Come and show your support before the game too, welcome the players as they arrive at the ground for what is a massive game, I'll be there at 12:45, will you join me?
