Glory, Glory Wigan Latics

...and the Blues go marching on

A fantastic run of form as given the Latics half a chance of completing mission impossible, to retain our Premier League status this season, after that dreadful run in the Autumn, would be a monumental achievement

Looking back on the season it is plain to see that two bad runs put us deep in trouble. The eight straight losses, nine games without a win, set us up for the struggle ahead, what is a surprise though, when we came out of that run with the win at Sunderland, those three points lifted us off the bottom of the table and we were only three points behind Fulham in 15th, still well within touching distance of safety

Why did the run happen though, what was the cause of such a destructive set of results? A collective lack of form maybe, key players missing through injury, both Boyce and Alcaraz missed a lot of games during that period, tactics not working, Martinez switched to a back three with the return of Alcaraz to the team and suddenly the defence tightened up. Whatever the reason we shook ourselves down and turned what looked like a tough December into a positive set of results.

But then came the other bad run of just one point from six games taking us through to the end of January, but coming out of that once again we were still in touching distance, since the start of February though the Latics have been in an amazing spell of form, just one defeat in eight games has galvanised the club and given even the most sceptical of the Latics faithful renewed optimism, we have played some scintillating football, won for the first time at Anfield and produced back to back wins, which is a real feat for the lesser teams of the Premier League.

We now face just seven games in which to gather the points required to save our season, the first three provide a mammoth task Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all within the space of seven days, first up is a trip to Chelsea to take on the Champions League semi-finalists, Wednesday sees the Champions elect Man U visit the DW, a team we have never even managed a draw against, and we finish off the week with a visit to the Emirates to tackle an Arsenal side desperately fighting for a top four finish and Champions League qualification for next season.

Three points from that lot, would you be happy? To true, though I believe we will get more. I predict a draw at the Bridge tomorrow, we are in great form, Chelsea had a tough game Wednesday and have a few injury concerns, they also face Fulham on Monday so will be set to shuffle their squad around. This brings us to Wednesday and the visit of Man U.

At the start of the season Martinez proclaimed that this would be the year that we beat United, I agree, I believe we will send Fergies men home up the East Lancs with nothing more than bruised egos, we will beat United and it will set us up nicely for the final five games. Arsenal maybe a game too far in this run but I can see us picking up the points in the remaining fixtures to guarantee survival.

Let's make Wednesday a night to remember, we are planning to be at the DW by 5:30pm to greet the players as they arrive, these 'meets' are proving to be very positive affairs, they appear to lift the players, they absolutely without question lift the fans who are there

It is also proposed that fans wear blue, whether it be a replica shirt, blue coat, hoodie or whatever, just wear blue, these are our clubs colours, let's make the stadium awash with them

Glory, glory Wigan Latics, and the blues go marching on
