'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What The Boss Said - Chelsea 2-1 Latics

Following the defeat at Chelsea Latics boss Roberto Martinez spoke about the game and those decisions, let's take a look at what he said:

'It is heartbreaking but, it is heartbreaking for reasons that we cannot control.

'There were two wrong decisions that should have been spotted.'

'I thought the performance was outstanding.'

'From start to finish we did what we had to do which is to try to come here and win the football game.

'We stopped Chelsea from having any joy on the ball and we also looked a threat going forward.

'The first goal is a real blow for us because to concede in that matter when it is clearly offside is a bad feeling.

'We came back really well because we were really composed and got back on level terms with a fantastic strike from open play.

'In every aspect of the game that you can analyse, we were very, very good and that is what pleases me.

'At the end we want to win the game and get caught on the counter and there is another offside for the goal.

'The second one was a little bit harder to spot but we have that feeling of injustice and frustration.'

'Unfortunately for us it happened last season when Ali Al Habsi is impeded by Fernando Torres and it stopped us from getting a positive result but, clearly today it is a harder one to take.

'I felt the performance is as good as we have played away from home against a top four side all season and that is down to the good quality that we have got in the squad.

'We have to brush it off for the next game because it is an unfortunate decision and we should have got at least a point.

'We did everything right in the performance and it is a real feeling of injustice.

'On Wednesday we have another game and we have to take the positives of the performance into that game.

'It is not easy to score goals from open play at Stamford Bridge and i think the strike and the manner that we worked the ball was really good and obviously from then on we should have got that reward.

'The performance is the most important thing because it shows just what we can do.

'We were a real strong team and such a solid unit.

'The next six games we need to get the points and the only way to do that is to play like we did today.'

'I don't think anyone expected us to get a result today but we came here knowing that we could.

'Clearly everyone who has seen the game will know that Wigan Athletic were the better team and that speaks volumes of the commitment of the players.'
