Scoffy And Phoenix Are Up For The Marathon

Wigan Athletic supporter Ian Schofield, aka Scoffy amongst the various Latics fansites, is about to undertake a remarkable feat, Ian is set to run the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April along with Latics mascot Phoenix

Some of you may recall both Scoffy and Phoenix taking part in the Walk4Emma back in February, well they forged a very close friendship that day and decided that they should face the challenge of competing in the London Marathon together.

Scoffy explains: 'I have run the London Marathon before and mascots always get such great support. I thought that running with the Latics` mascot was a way to raise more money for charity! It's fantastic that my mate Phoenix has agreed to take part!'

'I have chosen Help for Heroes because it's a charity close to my heart, having served three years in the British Army when I was younger. There are young lads losing their limbs, sight and being severely disabled all the time whilst on operations and giving up their lives so we can live in a free country. This is my way of giving something back.'

Scoffy has helped Phoenix prepare both physically and mentally for the challenge of running a marathon, and although apprehensive about the 26 miles Phoenix is determined to succeed for such a good cause, Phoenix says: 'This is going to be hard work but I am getting ready, training every day! I hope we can raise loads of money for charity!'
