'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roberto Martinez 'Wigan Athletic Fans Are Unique'

Due to an earlier server error the following article is re-published, apologies

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez spoke about his pride in the Latics fans following his sides victory over table-topping Manchester United

The supporters have been galvanised recently and have got behind the team, even though they have been in the bottom three for most of the season. Attendances on match days are up and the 'Meet and Greet' of the players before games has proven to be a great success, the Latics may be a small club in comparison to some but our fans are amongst the most passionate in the land

Speaking to the clubs official website Martinez said: 'We are very, very proud of our fans and they represent what we are as a football club but, today I'm just really happy that they can enjoy being a Wigan Athletic fan and once more be proud of this group of players that have been exceptional.

'This result is for our fans. I want them to enjoy it and have a proud feeling about their football club and make sure that they enjoyed the emotions that we have created today.'

'At any other football club it would have been all too easy for the fans to lose patience but, our fans are quite unique.'
