Di Santo In Fitness Battle For Newcastle Game

Wigan Athletic striker Franco Di Santo was withdrawn on 31 minutes from yesterdays defeat at Craven Cottage due to a calf strain revealed Latics boss Roberto Martinez

The young Argentine striker has been in excellent form of late and his presence was sorely missed when he left the field, it looks like a race against time to have the former Chelsea man ready for next Saturdays home game with Newcastle

Speaking about Di Santo Martinez said - 'Franco felt his calf midway through the first half and you can understand that feeling after the demands on him and the rest of the team recently.

'We had a few knocks and bruises going into the game and unfortunately Franco wasn't able to continue, so we'll asses his situation over the next few days and see if he can be ready for next week.'

He was sorely missed, sometimes you only realise how good a player is when they're not playing
