Building On The Mac's - Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic midfield duo James McCarthy and James McArthur are proving to be the corner stone of the Latics recent run of good form

The former Hamilton Accies team mates have made the centre midfield spots their own these past few months and the pair have turned in some excellent performances

It's taken a while for them to be given an extended run as a midfield pairing but whatever has been worked on behind the scenes is really paying dividends on the pitch with some sparkling performances

Latics boss Roberto Martinez is clearly delighted with their form, he says 'Individually they have been huge, but the way they have integrated into the team has shown them to be outstanding men.', with just three games of the current campaign remaining and the position we find ourselves in the Latics need that form to continue.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said about McCarthy and McArthur: 'We always knew they could reach this level as a pair, and we have invested a lot in making sure they were given every chance to get there'

'More than anything, their characters have allowed them to achieve what they have.

'When you have attitudes like they have, you can do anything in the game. You wouldn`t want anyone else in your corner, representing your football club when the going gets tough.

'Of course they are still young lads, but it is great to see them developing into the players we always knew they could be.

'Individually they have been huge, but the way they have integrated into the team has shown them to be outstanding men.

'It's important when you are talking about any team that you have understanding between the players and strong partnerships that help you go forward.

'Sometimes what you do affects those alongside you, and obviously the boys have that special relationship both on and off the field that has helped them massively.'

Partnerships in a team is what brings success, it looks like we may just have found a great partnership to build on
