Roberto Martinez Gets Top Award

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has been named the Barclays Premier League manager of the month for April, becoming the first Latics boss to pick up the award since Paul Jewell back in October 2005

Martinez`s prize comes off the back of a sensational set of results, in what is known as the business end of the season. The Latics played five games in April, winning three Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle those three wins also gave the Latics the accolade of performance of week in each, underlying the point that it wasn't just the results that won Martinez the manager of the month award, but the performances that his team put in

The Latics have been playing some breathtaking football, blowing away their opposition with displays that have earned the club plaudits from commentators and pundits from around the world.

A fantastic honour, not only for Roberto Martinez, but also for the club, this award is something that we should all take some pride in.

Speaking about his award Roberto Martinez said: 'It's a fantastic award and I collect it on behalf of everyone at Wigan Athletic, we should all be very proud.

'Everyone at the football club has made a difference which has allowed the players to show something extra in their performances, and we should all take credit for the award.

'I've said many times how incredible our fans are in the way they have supported the Club on our amazing journey, but in recent weeks we've needed them more than ever they took the initiative and changed the fortunes of the team; arriving before the home games to welcome the players in and allowing them to be mentally focussed.

'So on behalf of every single fan, member of staff and all the players at Wigan Athletic I'm very proud to collect the award.

'It's a massive boost at the right time, but we know we haven't achieved anything yet and that there are two more games that we need to be ready for.'
