Martinez To Stay At The Latics

The season ends and the speculation begins, Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is being linked with two jobs, Liverpool, even though Dalglish is still in charge and Aston Villa who have just departed company with Alex McLeish

I have no doubt whatsoever that Liverpool would be of interest to Martinez, but probably not at this moment of his career, he has unfinished work at the Latics, the team that he has patiently assembled over the past three seasons has really started to come into form, the potential is there for a storming campaign next time out, plus Liverpool have a manager

There is heavy speculation linking Martinez to the Villa job for the second time in 12 months, he turned them down last year but that hasn't stopped the bookies installing him as their odds on favourite to take the hot set at Villa Park

I don't see Villa being an attractive post for 'our Bob', they are a club that needs a complete overall, they wouldn't appear to be flushed with cash and after changing managers three times in three years they aren't exactly stable

Speaking to the media about the possibility of taking up a new challenge away from the DW Stadium Martinez put the press straight - 'There's not a decision to be made. I'm under contract and at the moment there's nothing else other than preparing for next season and making sure we grow season after season. There's nothing to discuss.

'When there is speculation about players and managers it is because you've done something well. We've done something well and there's speculation, but it's nothing more than that.'

Well said Bobby

Staying put? I hope so
worbo
Certainly not a stable club at the moment but massive potential if someone can get it right. Is Martinez the answer anyway? Not sure, really rate him but we might not be right for him and he might not be right for us..By the way, money IS available and since McLeish has gone the office has been rammed all day with people renewing season tickets. . You would be very foolish to underestimate the potential Vills have to bounce back after this disasterous season

martinez is a great manager but i dont think it will be this you lose him maybe next he has great backing from your owner.... who i might add is probably one of the very best owners around as he is very honiest to the fans about everything and has said that there will be a time that martinez will leave for a top job and he will shake his hand and wish him the very best.... i mean what a top bloke to be working for..... one of the best around wish there were more like him good luck for next season and well played for the one just finished ended it in style.....

I dont doubt Villa's potential for one minute but Martinez is on the cusp of doing something at the Latics, to give that up for what would be a rebuilding job, just not the right time...cant wait for the new season, if we can hit the ground running then we could be in for a great campaign, 9th or 8th! dizzy heights for us
worbo
O yes I'm sure something great is coming your way just like last year when Martinez promised a top ten finish for wigan. Yes well we all know how that turned out. Honestly Wigan has a much better squad than people give them credit for and it's a bit ridiculous they've been in a relegation fight 3 years in a row now. I sincerely hope we don't sign this guy as it represents a serious risk on Villa's part. No wonder your owner doesn"t give a toss whether he stays or leaves, he'll just keep producing the same results. Would not be surprised if you have an identical season next year, only without Rodallega. Good luck this season you'll need it with him.

cya later clbick im sure you enjoyed your emphatic 7 wins this year

Sour grape from clbick3....Aston Villa is a Martinez-rejected club, simple. get over it and move on with Mick McCarthy, Steve Bruce or Arvam Grant. Good Luck, hope your side will collect more than 7 wins next season.

People of Wigan say NO! He must stay.

As a Villa fan was undecided as to how good Martinez really was after reading Worbos interview on the Villa site must admit he comes across well. But having got some fantastic performances out of your team towards the end of the season would doubt he would want to go anywhere. Surely he will want to see this project through being so close. No sour grapes from me hongkong delighted to see a smaller club giving the rich and famous the runaround. The biggest danger I see for you is losing players to finance the club at the end of the season it seems to be the reason you cannot get off to a good start. Best of luck for next season against all bar us. Ps hongkong guarantee you the three you named will not be manager of Aston Villa and havnt you already had Bruce ? lol.
