Liverpool? Martinez Better Off With Us Dave Whelan

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has spoken about the possibility of Latics boss Roberto Martinez stepping into the hot seat at Anfield following Liverpool's decision to sack Reds manager Kenny Dalglish, Whelan says: 'he would be better off with us'

Speaking to ESPN this evening when news broke about Dalglish, Whelan claimed that Liverpool is a desolate place, without a heart and that he feels sorry for their fans who deserve better

The Latics owner also says that the way the club have treated manager Kenny Dalglish is disrespectful to such a legend, Whelan said: 'They shouldn't be sacking Kenny Dalglish, they should be making him chairman, let him run the place'

'As for a new manger, I am sure they might want my manager, but he's been the favourite for the West Brom job, then favourite for the Aston Villa job, now he's favourite for the Liverpool job.

'I don't know who they will appoint, they have to sort themselves out, all I can tell you is that I haven't had an approach for Roberto.

'I hope Roberto is with me for the start of the new season, but in football you can never tell. I do know that he is an honest man, and if he is approached by anyone he will tell me about it.

'If Roberto thought he could go to another club because that club was so big and the challenge so great he couldn't resist it, then I would step aside and let him, but I wouldn't think he should go to Liverpool, he would be better off with us.'

Dont be lead into a swamp, these big clubs eat big men, no thought for anyone, Wigan is a small club but perfectly formed and next season will be one to remember if you keep the team you have built, plus additions.

You managed to keep him last season but I am not sure you will do that again. Love to see him roll up at Villa Park but IF Liverpool call he will jog on over there.

The action(?) from yesterday's game at the DW Stadium between Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest which ended goalless:

Report - Latics 0 Forest 0 - What A Shocker

Thirteen games to save our Championship status, first up a home game against Nottingham Forest who are on a shocking run of form, conceded 10 goals in their last three matches, three of their first choice defenders missing through injury, they had lost 11 of their 16 away games this season with a -16 goal difference on the road and sat just six points above us in the table, surely a game that we would set out to win.

Checking the team selection I felt slightly optimistic but slightly conf
