James McArthur Signs Extension At Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic have announced that Scotland international James McArthur has signed a contract extension at the club, the midfield man has come into tremendous form at the back end of the season, his partnership in the heart of the Latics team alongside his close friend James McCarthy is one of the reasons why Martinez's men finished the last campaign on such a high

Latics media department have released the following statement:

James McArthur has put pen-to-paper on a deal with Wigan Athletic that will keep him at the Club until 2016, signing a two-year extension to his existing contract.

The Scotland international has been in fine form this season making 18 starts from 31 league appearances and scoring his first goals for the Club since moving from Hamilton Academical in 2010 and forming a strong partnership with James McCarthy in the centre of midfield.

Strikes against Tottenham Hotspur, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion contributed towards four points picked up by Latics in the final stages of the season, points that would prove vital in the Club securing an eighth season in the Barclays Premier League.

Speaking after signing the deal, McArthur said - 'I'm delighted to extend my stay at the Club after what has been a fantastic season for Wigan Athletic and for me personally.'

Roberto Martinez said - 'James has grown since the day he arrived at Wigan Athletic.

'His attitude, desire and daily standards make him an example for any young professional footballer.

'This season he has managed to put all the hard work in the training ground into effective performances on the pitch, helping the team to achieve outstanding results against the best sides in European football.

'We are all very proud of James at this moment but still very aware that at his age the best footballing years still to come."

Just 3 Points For Wigan Athletic To Play For (01/05/16)

The Latics have only 3 points left to play for in this year's battle for League One promotion.

Gary Caldwell's Blackpool Reflections

A very proud Gary Caldwell spoke to the media after the game, let's take a look at what he had to say:

Dan's Big Game Report - Blackpool 0 Latics 4

As you read this message in the year 2036, much of Blackpool vs. Wigan '16 has passed into the annals of Latics lore. Scarcely has a single game of kickball received quite as much build-up - from the minute this fixture was announced to the moment match ref Stuart Attwell finally tootled on his tin whistle, talk of Bloomfield Road on 30 April was incessant.

And I expect it's been much the same since, with (admittedly failed) film scripts written and (admittedly shoddy) statues
