Martinez Must Stay At Wigan Athletic

Dear Roberto

Two questions:

1. Why would you ever want to leave Wigan Athletic?
2. Why would you ever consider managing Liverpool?

To say that Roberto Martinez is a Latics Legend is as big an understatement as when T.Rex said 'oh look a shooting star'. Martinez is in the very fabric of the club, it's his home, both physically and spiritually, he belongs at Wigan, the supporters love him, the players love him, the staff at the DW Stadium love him, he is given the freedom and time to work his way, he is under very limited pressure to produce and when things do get tough the whole support get firmly behind and help carry him through

After three seasons it also would appear that the plans that he has put in place are starting to bear fruit. Latics are flying on the pitch, the side is balanced and everyone associated with the club are looking forward to the new season, a great moment to be boss of Wigan Athletic

In contrast up the East Lancashire Road at Anfield, Liverpool are a club in turmoil. A once massive club looking very much to be a club on the decline, supporters who live so far in the past they name their kids either John, Paul, George or if its a girl Ringo

A club who this season took great pride and pleasure in declaring that 'they are back' because they won a cup that was won the previous season by Birmingham City!

A club whose fans are organising protests to tell the board at Anfield not to appoint one of the games most highly regarded up and coming managers and seem to believe they can tempt José Mourinho away from Real Madrid, a club who have a high profile newspaper journalist fan that likens Martinez to Susan Boyle with Dalglish in his opinion Cameron Diaz, a quick message for Brian Reade of the Daily Mirror, go and look up the word 'deluded' and the phrase 'not a clue'.

Martinez would be given no time at Anfield, they would ruin him, they don't deserve him. Stay put Bobby, stay where you are loved, stay where the feeling is warm and keep working the challenge at the Latics, keep making us believe and get us that European spot that you promised

Well put Baz, Come on Bobby you know it makes sense the Scousers dont deserve you.

Better for everyone if he stays but Liverpool would be hard to turn down, poisoned chalice though it is. Let's hope they don't offer him the job but that Whelan and Bob can turn it into PR hype "Roberto Stays with Wigan" again like last year and get more bums on season ticket seats for next season.

Risk is far too big to achieve benefits by going to Liverpool at this stage.

Why is Liverpool more attractive than Wigan?...history?...because the scousers say so? If RM stays and we keep most of the team we had last season (and keep up the way we play) I would say we can finish above Liverpool next season. We have to dare to dream and stop thinking small. Liverpool currently is no prize.
hayzee
Everton finished above Liverpool this season. We can match them, so next year we can finish higher. Bob you know this is true. Stay here in your second home.

It is not how big the club is, or what happened 30 years ago (Yes that long ago) It is about now, and we are in a great position financially and have the positive image of a proper football club. Roberto will stay, he is not stupid, I expect to stay and when a proper club on the up comes calling he will go and rightly so, he loves Wigan, he came to us in 1995 and he will always remember, but now Liverpool is not the club he should be going to, especially with deluded supporters they have.

The thing is if we can cast our minds back just a few short months ago people were calling for Martinez to leave this great club of ours and now we all want him to stay will it be a case of as you were if next season starts badley and carrys on that way or will we have wished he`d gone to Liverpool
BlueGoose
nice to leave it as headline article for a few days...
