Wigan Athletic pair Hugo Rodallega and Momo Diame are both set to leave the club on free transfers when their respective contracts expire at the end of next month, both are quality players and eyebrows have been raised as to how why they haven't been signed up on contract extensions
Latics CEO Jonathan Jackson says that the club did all they could to get the pair to agree new deals, but he also said that they weren't prepared to put the future of the club in jeopardy by offering pay deals outside the clubs wage structure, he also pointed out that the fantastic run at the end of the season didn't see either player that much involved
Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post about Rodallega and Diame Jackson said - 'Hugo and Momo are both top-quality players, and we don't like to see top-quality players leaving the club'
'Having said that, neither played very much in the last few weeks of the campaign.
'Would you say either were fundamental to the success of the club in the second half of the season? No they weren't.
'And we need to make sure the football club is run as a business. We have to be sensible about it.
'Unfortunately when players do well, bigger clubs are going to want them.
'But players come and go, and we're no different to anyone else in that respect.
'We tried very hard to retain those two players, but both wanted to keep their options open and they were perfectly entitled to do that.'
Speculation around Diame suggests that he had a move to Liverpool set up, that was before Kenny Dalglish got the sack though and his departure from Anfield appears to have put an end to Diame's arrival there, the Senegal international is quoted as saying 'I met Kenny Dalglish and we talked about next season, but God decided to finish this situation'
'It is true I was very sad in my head as I was thinking to go there, but that is OK as I think I have got other opportunities to go to another club.'
'I am free and not everybody is free in this moment like a midfield player like me and that is why I have got a lot of clubs interested in me'
'I have to be composed and make a good decision for my future. I have got some offers from Spain, from France, from Turkey, but I really want to stay in the Premier League.'
Latest gossip is linking Diame with a move to Sunderland, well Momo the grass isn't always greener!![]()
