Victor Moses - Forget Moving Stay At The Latics

Wigan Athletic striker Victor Moses is the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, the Latics have already knocked back a derisory bid reputed to be somewhere between £3-£4 million, but Moses himself has indicated that there may be more than just the Chelsea offer sitting on the desk at the DW Stadium

The 21 year old has been away on international duty with Nigeria for the past three weeks and he claims that there are 'lots of offers on the table', but he also says that he is faithful to the Latics.

Speaking to the media Moses says - 'Now that I'm done with the national team, my attention will switch to the transfer window'

'I have heard a lot of offers are on the table. First of all Wigan have the final say, but for me the highest bidder would take the day. Right now I am still a DW faithful.'

Now slap me if I'm wrong, but surely Moses should be considering the best move for himself in the long term not 'the highest bidder would take the day'

At 21 Moses is at a crucial stage of his development, to move somewhere and not play regularly would be potentially catastrophic in that development, at the Latics he is almost guaranteed a starting role in the team, last season he featured in every Premier League game, starting all but two, as the season wore on, so did the impact that Moses had in the team. It's no coincidence that of his six Premier League goals all but one came in the back half of the season.

To continue his development and fulfil his potential to become a big star in the game Moses needs at least another season with the Latics, playing regularly and being firmly in the limelight, Latics chairman Dave Whelan speaking to the Wigan Evening Post says - 'I personally have told Victor he requires another 12 months minimum under Roberto's guidance before he thinks about moving to a top club'

'He has come on so much in the last two years - and that is purely down to Roberto's help.

'I told him when he signed for Wigan that we'd let him go when the time was right and a big club came in for him. In my opinion he's not quite ready for that yet, but another year working with Roberto and he might be.'

So Whelan also thinks that Victor would be better off stopping at the Latics, but money talks, Whelan to his credit though has promised a double your wages offer to Vic - 'We've made him a very good offer - involving a doubling of his wages - over the next three years

'It's down to whether the lad himself listens to sense, or whether he listens to his agent

'The player has to realise that it's his future we're talking about not his agent's.'

So this situation looks like it could be led by Moses' agent Tony Finnigan, the same agent that advised West Brom that Latics star Nathan Ellington had a £3,000,001p buyout clause back in 2005, remember what happened there, and where did Ellington's promising career go?

Whelan sums it up nicely - 'Agents want cash out of players, that`s all, whereas we want the lad to realise his potential and reach the highest level he can

'If we have to sell him, we will do so reluctantly - but not for the money that is currently on the table.'

Come on Victor, use your nous, stay another year

Its time players took charge of their own future, tell Finnigan to get lost Vic

He has to do whats best for his football. And that is to stay at Wigan. Even if it is financial rewards he is after then im sure he and his agent would earn more money over the course of his career if they did what they could to make him a better footballer and one day end up playing a key role at one of the big big clubs. There really is no sense in him moving on yet. I would say 2 more years at Wigan but I think we'd be lucky if it was just 1.
