Vital Latics Top 50 - Arjan de Zeeuw

Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero's, these are being published in no particular order:

Arjan de Zeeuw

Arry was born on the 16th of April 1970 in Castricum, Holland. His first club was Telstar in Holland were he made102 apps scoring 5 times. He was snapped up by Barnsley and moved to England in 1995 playing 138 times scoring 7 goals.

6ft 3 ins Arry was signed for Latics In 1999 by the late John Benson and in his three seasons with the club became a huge fans favourite even prompting a previously unheard of Orange Day pleading with him to stay when sadly he headed off to join Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth.

He returned to Wigan in 2005 to much excitement from the Wigan faithful and stayed for two more seasons before time caught up with him and he was released in 2007, he made a total of 178 apps scoring 6 times for us, he won the 'Player of the Year' twice and 'Players Player of the Year' and was voted in a PFA Poll, Wigan Athletics best player of all time.

Arjan de Zeeuw will I believe live in Latics folklore forever.

I'll never forget when we played Man U at home in our first season in the Prem and Arry made a bone crunching tackle on Ronaldo putting him out of play along with the ball, summed Arry up, he took no prisoners!
