Vital Latics Top 50 - Gary Teale

Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero's, these are being published in no particular order:

Gary Teale

Gary signed for the club in 2001 from Ayr United for a reported £250,000. His debut was against Oldham Athletic and his first goal for the club was on 19th February 2002 in a 3-1 win against Notts County.

He was one of the few players who helped with Wigan's amazing journey from 2nd division to the premier league.

His speed was an asset. This was one factor that earned him his first call up to the Scottish National team in 2004. The nightlight beating France at Hampden Park.

In the 2004-2005 season Wigan were promoted to the premiership and Teale signed a new two-year contract with the club. Paul Jewell was a major influence on his career and gave him confidence to progress.

Being one of the 'premiership' band wagon supporters I can only really remember this part of this playing career. He played the match against Chelsea but got injured in the second premiership match against Charlton. He spent his time trying to get back into the squad which he achieved at Christmas.

Teale was the only player to feature in every Carling Cup match and in the final against Manchester United in 2006. There is no need to remind anyone of that score.

During the 2006 the competition for midfield got tougher with Valencia, Cotterill, Landzaat, Scharner and Taylor. He eventually left Wigan after six years at the club to join Derby County for a fee of £600,000 on 11 January 2007.

A great servant to the club... Who can forget Teale will tear you apart again?
